The preparations for the annual day begin much ahead of the day18/01/2019 itself. He congratulated the school for taking such an edifying topic which requires a quick moral action on everybody’s part.To start with, the principal delivers a speech, in which he first welcomes the Chief Guest and then details the highlights of the school-results in the Board’s Examinations and the awards that the students have won in various activities.

Then the Chief Guest is requested to deliver his speech. He also expresses gratitude to the Chief Guest for accepting their invitation and for all the compliments/ he has conferred on the school. The cultural programme begins after the prizes have been awarded. Songs are sung by the students, the dance and drama items are presented and one sees the hard work, the students have put in during the rehearsals, reaching its culmination. The Indian Model School gave each student to perform on the platform. Like it started with welcome address .The function ends with Principal of the school giving a vote of thanks to the Chief Guest and the parents for sparing their valuable time to be in the school.

Then there is a controlled movement towards the exit. Parents wait outside for their children. Those who have won prizes and those who have performed on the stage are lovingly received by their parents. Finally, everybody goes home, bidding adieu to each other. Finally, the Chief Guest is requested to give away the prizes to the students. The prize- giving-ceremony is also an interesting event to behold. Each time the name of a prize – winner is called out, the band strikes inarching tune and the student marches up to receive the prize and thanks the Chief Guest.

Science Fair Expo

“Big Ideas in Science Programme”                                                                                Saturday  01/09/2018 02:00 PM

Preparing a Science Fair & Expo project is an excellent example of what education experts call ‘active learning’ or ‘enquiry-based learning’. It is a very effective instructional method, so much so that it is recommended as a cornerstone of successful Science teaching. The ‘Science Fair,’ from TIMES , is testament to the evolution of our students’ knowledge, confidence, speaking skills and scientific enquiry.

The first ever Science Fair was held in 2017 and had only Secondary  students only participating in it. For the first time this year, following last year’s success and overcrowded gym, all grade students  had their very own Science Fair. There were 25 exhibits with nearly all students involved in the event. Students had worked hard taking up the ownership of their research, set up and displays for their respective project.

So, how different was it from last year’s event? The experiments and projects were incredibly interesting to the audience as they all related to what children use or come across in daily life. They were extremely varied and offered deeper insights into the scientific world than past years as they reflected the maturity of the students’ scientific skills. To name a few, classmates from the Primary School and the Foundation Stage had the opportunity to explore more about the hydraulic arm, the liquid battery, the bubble machine, the magic of Science, the pinhole camera, and much more.

Although a panel of teachers from all years judged the event, the most rewarding moment for the participants was to stand up and explain their learning, together with the initial obstacles and failures, to their juniors and of course their teachers.

Here are some of the thoughts shared by participants/teachers/parents and the Primary School students:

“Nithika had amazing presentation skills. She adapted her vocabulary to suit the  children and made her experiment interactive to engage the learners.” Mrs. Vaisnavi Teacher.

“Children were confident in conducting and explaining their experiments. It was clear that a lot of work had gone into the event both in school and outside of school. There was a wide range of experiments. It would be nice if there were more interactive experiments for children take part in.

“Students have used scientific terms and have presented their experiment in an excellent way. They were excited and very happy to present their project. It is a huge improvement from previous year! I hope it continues to be organised every year.” Times Parent.

“The experiments did not fail, they really worked well. Students explained the Science behind them and spoke very well.” Times Parent.

“I liked all the experiments. Parents  liked the layout of the tables in the corridor. “We had a great opportunity to explore the world of young minds. Though we failed countless times, we were determined never to give up (Times parent).

“We worked our best on our experiment, we almost gave up but we decided to be ambitious and explored different aspects of Science. After many failed trials, our experiment became a success.”

“I did not know that the Science Fair would be so much fun. I regret missing the opportunity this year. However, next year, I will be waiting to participate. I am already looking forward to it!” (Times Parent).

After much debate and based on a list of strict criteria, the Science teachers and the Secondary Team are sincerely pleased to announce the winners of the Secondary School Science Fair 2018

The students’ dedication to their Science studies and to promoting Science learning across the school will be met with exciting learning-conducive rewards!

Fruits Day(LKG , UKG )

Friday 06/07/2018  10:30 AM

06/07/2018 was a day of mirth thought provoking and extravaganza for the Luscious grapes of LKG and Tangy oranges of UKG for they had the opportunity given by the management to celebrate ‘FRUIT DAY’ on their school premises – The Land of Fruits.
As the popular saying goes ‘A fruit bearing tree is known by its fruits’ is very true to Times School which have provided an apt platform for the kiddies to assimilate, interact and learn from nature through the Fruit Day Celebration.
Through the celebration of Fruit Day the kiddies have highlighted the fact that just as each fruit has its own significance and individuality, Likewise we should also be unique and apart from the crowd and not one with the crowd.
The entrance to the Land of Fruits was attractively displayed by various fruit carvings. The morning assembly programme was an added attraction with the kiddies dressed up as fruits and rendered with clarity and fervour the true worth of fruits.
Many exciting activities such as star fruit print, pineapple print has been done by the kiddies. The task enabled them to identify the fruits and enhanced their hand eye co-ordination.
The teachers also explained the importance of fruits’ and vegetables’ intake in diet for mental and physical growth. The tiny tots also learned more about the taste, smell, colour and texture of each fruit and vegetable. Children clearly understood the importance of washing the fruits and vegetables before eating or cooking and about the benefits of eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Children and teachers sang the fruit and vegetable rhyme with great zest, enthusiasm and vigour, enjoying the moments of joy and happiness on this special day.

Principal Mrs.A.K.Mahalakshmi M.S.C.,B.Ed.,  M.Phil., M.B.A., came to each class of the K.G. Section and asked questions to the children regarding the project.

Teachers were given strategies and techniques through group activities, worksheets, visual aids, paper creativity work for better concept development. The workshop helped in providing the potential to build knowledge and improve communication skills, its effectiveness in the classroom by giving teachers a framework to understand and to induce learning since seeing is believing and doing is retaining.
The Resource Person with the help of visual aids explained the meaning of soft skills as – the personal abilities that improves human performance to interact with people. How such soft skills can be utilised in a classroom situation? For e.g. Speaking turn wise, listening to others by patience, greeting, conversing, to respect others independency, to give respect others work and thoughts and create a fearless environment in class.

She gave inputs on making their classes interesting, to modulate voice to attract the attention of students. She further said that teachers need to be good leaders and command respect. It is required that teachers be a little serious and stern than being frivolous. Positive talking to students for discipline in class also helps. Refrain from insulting before other students, standing outside the class, and negative conversation. To converse just one to one is far better.

Parental support is another key factor that is effective in classroom management.

Another tool that can produce a desired result is to improve on student’s comprehension. Permit students to be approachable, communicate and interact with teachers. Calling them by their names can do wonders. Teachers must provide students with instruction, guidance and feedback. Most importantly teachers should be fluent in their language skills while teaching.
A few tips were given on stress management, to be self motivated and to take corrections positively.
Overall the workshop was motivational, inspiring, communicative and effective. It was an amazing and wonderful experience for all the teachers. It helped the teachers to introspect & bring about the required changes and create a more vibrant classroom.
